"I guess what kept me from being hurt by the negative comments was that I’m doing it for my sistas and my brothas and I don’t care who tells me I’m not this or I’m not that, I know who I am and I know what Nina Simone means to me. I did it all out of love for my people and my pride of being a black woman and a Latina woman and an American woman and that’s my truth."

“I hate that at Customs because I say [I was in] Never Let Me Go, and they’re like, ‘Pfft!’ Because they demand that you tell them because they’re like, ‘Oh, you’re an actress. What have you been in?’ You’re like, ‘You won’t have seen it.’ They say, ‘Go on!’ You say, ‘They’re chick flicks, you really won’t have seen it’. It’s awkward. I think because I didn’t train, I’ve always felt kind of quite unqualified.”
I just saw Drive. I still don’t understand why she was the absolute only actress who could play that role, in lieu of a Latina. I really, really don’t. Carey Mulligan is cute and I like her and she picks amazing films to be a part of but I just feel like she just smirks through every role. Maybe Shame will change my mind about her.
